Paid in Full
My Sunday night women's Bible study by Angela Thomas called Brave-Honest Questions Women Ask is ending next Sunday night. I have been blessed by the heart of this author. She really "got" me, I have many of the same concerns and fears she has regarding my past and it's effects on my future.
This week Angela reminded her readers on page 139: "Through Jesus, we are God's sealed with the Holy Spirit as a promise of redemption. We face heartache on earth, but brokenness does not win...we must not stay in our bitterness. We have a Redeemer. Our future is guaranteed because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The broken on this earth have the hope of glory...We are held, seen, and loved by Almighty God."
She goes on to say on page 143: "Paid in full. All of our debt was completely paid at the cross. All our shame removed. The gift of life eternal was bought back for us by our nearest kinsman-redeemer, Jesus." Her reference to kinsman-redeemer comes from the Book of Ruth in the Holy Bible. It's a short story and a wonderful one of sacrifice and love. Mrs. Thomas notes on page 139: "This Old Testament story of Ruth is what's called a "type of Christ." That's a theological phrase to describe a passage that foretells and pictures the coming Savior...a pretelling, of what Christ would come to do for us."
I worked in sales, when someone paid for one of our packages in full, we said the client "PIF'd." We all celebrated being PIF'd (Paid in Full) because we got full commission right up front, at a higher percentage. And that's really what Christ did for each of us. He went to the cross, took all of our sins with Him, and died (paid the full price for our sins) so that we wouldn't have to spend eternity in hell.
He gave us the gift of eternal life even though He knew we would be sinners. Because Christ PIF'd us, we are free to choose Him and live in heaven eternally. Sometimes thinking about the sin that's been apart of my life, it's hard to believe God would send His Son Jesus Christ as a living sacrifice for me, but He did and not because I'm special or work hard, He's done it for you too regardless of what you have or haven't done!
God does what He does through His mercy and grace, undeserved and unmerited favor for His children, you and me. All He expects from us is to thank Him for picking up the "bill" for our sins by dying on the cross, ask for forgiveness for our sins that nailed Him to the cross and praise Him for overcoming death and being raised again and asking to be a child of the Most High God. KT

I John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
