Out of Season

We have a beautiful Amaryllis blooming in our yard. It was from a clearance section at a store a couple of Christmases ago. Once it finished blooming that year, my husband put it in the ground, hoping that it would come back again the next year. And it has, each spring and it always reminds me of Christmas!
I was reading a story about giving and in the story I was reminded that it is a blessing to be able to give, but we must also remain humble about giving as it is from God's supply, not our own that we are giving. If we become proud about our ability to give and then won't let others help us, if we one day are in need, that is sin. I'm guilty of this sin called pride.
I brought up the Amaryllis as it seems we all associate giving with Christmas and yet there are 364 other days a year that many are in need. I pray today to be one that realizes the money, food, clothing, even time that I am able to give is actually a gift from God to me that I am to pour out on others. May I never again become proud about such heavenly bounty. May I remember to give of His surplus throughout the year and not just around holidays, as giving is never out of season.
Amaryllis in our yard now has five beautiful blossoms on it. Thank you Lord!
Matthew 25: 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

  1. I really needed to read this today. I love it when you,say "giving is never out of season". Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my little world that I don't realize that God has a lot of opportunities for me to help. Let it begin with the household of faith....i
