Down the Rabbit Trail
Each day poises such possibilities, but many of mine wander away down the proverbial "rabbit trail." My cocker spaniel, Abby, has much the same problem on our morning walks. She loves to walk, so much so that the word "walk" must be spelled out unless I'm willing to do the deed. Yet, while on our morning excursions, she's easily distracted by r-a-b-b-i-t-s and b-i-r-d-s (words which also must not be spoken:) and forgets altogether about walking.
I caught myself telling her, as she tried to get the lowdown on a nearby bush, "Come on, we don't have time for this!" My reason for saying this was that it was already 90 degrees at 9:00AM in Phoenix, Arizona and I could tell the heat was rapidly rising. She can't walk on the sidewalks once it gets that hot and I don't want to!
Later, I pondered my comment and realized a few other things. First, we didn't have time because I spent too much time in bed. Second, I perceived the need to hurry due to the heat, but also because as an adult I've lost my ability to linger without impatience setting in. Lastly, we didn't have time because I have made walks a "dog thing" rather than a "God thing."
I used to walk and pray. But when I have too many random things going on in my life, I set off like Abby jerking to get free and chase rabbits, rather than to just enjoy the moment I'm in. It's time for me to be content and to relax, in a single moment in time, before heading down another "rabbit trail."

Celebrating with Mel on her birthday yesterday. Even at the party, I was busy taking photos rather than relaxing with my friends.
Luke 10:38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
