Eye Popping Language

Before I became a Christian, I had the "mouth of a sailor" as the saying goes, no offense to sailors intended. Recently I attended a party where the women were using foul language and it struck me that it seemed out of place in my life now. But alas, all that is needed is a tiny judgmental thought to have the Lord on His way to humbling me.
I went to a scrapbooking evening at our church and in the throws of a story, I repeated the language (and gestures) spoken (and used) toward me by a parent when I was a school principal. The eyeballs of these poor Christian women popped open like saucers and I realized my error. Embarrassed, but unsure of what to say next, (my thought being, "Stop talking!") I mumbled a dismal apology for repeating those words (and gestures no less) and wanted to crawl under my chair.
Interestingly, my morning reading and the scripture that came to mind while wondering what to write about today was 1 Peter 4:11, "If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God." Yikes! Lord help me put my sailing days behind me and speak words of refreshment, rather than fire, into others' lives. To God be the Glory. Amen.

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
