Happy Birthday Laura!
My girlfriend, Laura, and her husband Mark are here visiting from Utah. Laura and I have gone to school together since junior high. She and my mom have the same birthdate. Something Laura asked me today made me ponder the question, "What makes a good friend?"
I'm blessed to have many friends of varying ages with different interests so it's difficult to put my finger on those specific qualities that first attract me to people who become close friends. My friend Laura has a strong faith in God, an abundance of common sense, genuine concern for others, she laughs easily, loves her family, isn't drawn to drama or pretense, and is a great listener. She has many other wonderful qualities (hard worker, smart, thrill-seeker, beautiful inside and out, thrifty, to name a few more), all of which make her the right friend for me.
But Ralph Waldo Emerson put it best, "The only way to have a friend is to be one."

This is so true and isn't it amazing how Jesus is also our friend. He's our example of how to be a friend. I love having you as a friend as you have all the qualities I admire. Blessings.
