Satan's Roadblocks
Since my husband has not been feeling well lately and has many questions for God, he's been spending more time reading his Bible. He paced through the house this morning looking for his glasses. He left the kitchen and returned from the bedroom with bent, wire-framed glasses with a lens missing. "What happened?" I asked. "Well," he responded, "I was making the bed and knocked the Bible onto the floor. I found my glasses."
Isn't that just like Satan, he brought sin into the world so we have illness and other things to worry about, but when we go to the Word of God for comfort, he smashes our glasses so we can't see! In this case, using my husband's own Bible to break his glasses. Of course the analogy here is that often when we begin getting closer to God and learning about Him and making a difference for Him, Satan will try to throw roadblocks in our way whether illness, discouragement, temptation, or even breaking things that we are using to aid us in our walk with God.
My friend Helen had this script today that speaks to a similar notion:

After Jesus was baptized, God's Spirit fell upon him and the Spirit sent him out immediately into the desert. Satan tried to tempt him and though he was with wild animals, the angels cared for him. Mark 1:9-13 When we are filled with the Spirit and sent to do God's work, expect satan to give you trouble but also expect God to protect you.
God Bless You, Helen
Bob's broken glasses:(
I Thes. 3:4 In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know. 5 For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain.

ReplyDeleteOur thoughts and prayers are with you guys...please keep my updated. You are so right. When we draw close to the Lord, expect Satan to throw road blocks up. Having said that, there is nothing like the comfort that only the Lord gives us during those times of weathering a storm. Hang in there. The Lord will not disappoint.
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord for the discernment he gives us to see the enemy behind the roadblocks. It keeps us focused to push through them to victory, in Jesus' name. Helen
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just the way it goes! I hate to admit this, but when I had finally figured this out, it almost made me not want to get closer to the Lord. Yet, it's through these test and trials that we become more like Christ. I am praying for you both and it was good getting to hear from Bob about his searching the Word. It never returns void.
