Giving it All to God

It struck me today that I'm always willing to give God my weaknesses, but I'm careful not to offer Him my strengths. But when He says that we are to give our first fruits to Him, is He not speaking of our best gifts? Where do our best gifts come from? Our strengths are usually our passions, hobbies and areas where we shine. Shouldn't we give God the glory for those areas of our lives and not just the areas where we mess up and sin?
I told a friend at dinner tonight that I have a theory about heaven (this is not theological, just KT logic:). You often hear that, "Life is not a dress rehearsal," followed by things like "so live it fully in the present." But what if it is a dress rehearsal? What if life is God's grand rehearsal hall?
Think about it, He gives us life and then provides us with opportunities to build our spiritual spines daily. We can either show up or curl up! The choice is totally our own, then when we get to heaven, we will use the talents, skills and abilities that we, with the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit, have developed on earth's big beautiful revolving stage.
So if this theory were true, it would be another reason the Lord tells us not to worry, don't be afraid, work unto the Lord, not man, and other encouraging scriptures because this is our time to practice. He's reminding us that it's okay to mess up, He's there for us in our mistakes and He can turn our errors into eternal achievements, if we will just fess up, grow up and give up all to God in faith.

  • Philippians 4:Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
  • Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  • Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

  1. Kate, I absolutely love this and every since we talked about this and you brought up that this is a dress rehearsal, it has taken a lot of unnecessary stress from me!! This isn't the real deal....this is the rehearsal where we can continue to try to grow closer to the Lord and then when He assigns us our jobs of passion in heaven, we'll do them as unto Him perfectly!! Absolutely love this and love you!!
