Wise Counsel
Today I got together with three of my girlfriends and we had a great time sharing news, crying, laughing and commiserating. Since these friends are godly women, I respect their counsel. If we ignore wise counsel and go our own way, we can cause division and death to relationships, careers, and in some cases even worse. No matter how unimportant we perceive our lives to be, we impact the lives of others, either in the positive or the negative. We have a sphere of influence and a responsibility to those people in our circle.
I read this morning in II Chronicles 10 about King Solomon's son, Rehoboam, when he took over as reigning king of Israel. Jeroboam of Egypt came to him after many years of being away from Israel and said, "Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you." Rehoboam essentially said let me think about it and I'll get back to you. Then he talked to his father's advisers who told him to, "be kind to these people...they will always be your servants." He rejected their advice and went with the advice of some young men he grew up with who basically said to be even harder on the people then his father had been.

II Chronicles 10:15 So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from God, to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king:
“What share do we have in David,
what part in Jesse’s son?
To your tents, Israel!
Look after your own house, David!”
what part in Jesse’s son?
To your tents, Israel!
Look after your own house, David!”
So all the Israelites went home. 17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them. 18 King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
