Compromising Integrity

You often hear people speak of "coming to a compromise," and that's usually a good thing. But in my two readings today the authors indicated that compromising as a Christian can also be a bad thing. Joanie Yoder in God Alone page 51 writes about a man named John that wanted to work as a salesman without "compromising his Christian integrity." The story goes that he gets the job and "did not waver in his commitment to be a godly witness in the business world."
John soon became the top salesman and later the branch manager, "John and his team became the company's largest branch worldwide--all without compromising Christian integrity." The author reminds the reader that if we are struggling in a difficult workplace to follow the directives of Colossians 1:29, "For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me."
As I read Beth Moore's revised study, David-Seeking a Heart Like His, she noted on page 12, "Saul had a bad habit of compromising the commands of God. The king refused to wait on the Lord, trust in His Word, and follow His directions." As I read her statement regarding King Saul in 1 Samuel, it struck a chord with me. How many times have I compromised on what I knew the Lord was guiding me to do? Whether I compromised out of pride, embarrassment, or arrogance it never glorified God, and it usually led to more compromising whether in the form of excuse making or finger pointing.
Lord help me to remember not to compromise on my integrity, but instead to call on You and Your strength, wisdom, and direction when the "buck stops here."
When this buck stopped in the road at the Grand Canyon, everyone stopped here!

2 Timothy 3:5 Having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

  1. Love that photo and agree with the compromising, especially at work. Always a struggle between pleasing man vs. God. Some days it's easy...some days I'm horrible. I know it's due to my pride. The Lord will help me though. Love you.
