Identity Theft
Recently, I received a notice from a former doctor's office that someone had broken into their storage warehouse and stolen patient information. I, unfortunately, had been one of their patients for several years so the likelihood that my information had been stolen was pretty good. The letter included a year's worth of identify theft insurance paid for by the doctor's office, if I chose to apply for it.
So just the other day, I get a call that someone had applied for a job using my name, address and phone number. The job was a 1000 miles from where I live. (I thought my commute was bad now!)
Oh, and "I" didn't show up for my interview. I hate it when people pretend to be me and then are flakes about it! :)
As Christians, we have our identity in Christ, thus the word "Christians" or "followers of Christ." Once we chose Him as our Savior and Lord, we can no longer lose our identity. Someone in the world may try to steal our worldly identity and all the stuff we own, but our soul will always be in the hands of God Almighty. As ones identified in Christ, our responsibility then is to live lives worthy of the sacrifices He made for us.
If we are "flaky" Christians, then others who might be considering giving their lives over to Jesus Christ can become confused and discouraged. Are we perfect? No, but if we mess up Christ's good name, we should do whatever it takes to clear up our errors (as far as it is in our ability to do so), ask for forgiveness, and make things right with others. Our humility may be just what someone needs to see to believe that we are who we say we are and we belong to who we say we belong...following His example of the ultimate act of humility...God became flesh and walked among us. (John 1:14)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I love this and your outlook on it. Our identity is in Christ.
