God's Timing is Everything
A friend and I went to get coffee today and the new establishment had its roots in my hometown in another state. When I told the clerk that I was the owner's son's school vice principal back in the day, she got so excited she invited others over to meet me and gave me a coffee on the house! Although, that was not my intention of sharing that information, it was a nice surprise and a reminder that we are all connected in one way or another in the body of Christ.
Looking back on what I read this morning in, God Calling edited by A. J. Russell, "Your lives are so linked up with those of others, so bound by circumstances that to let your desire have instant fulfillment might in many cases cause another, as earnest prayer, to go unanswered," confirmed my coffee experience. I had wanted to start this same coffee establishment twelve years before. Even contacted the owner, father of my former student, but nothing came of the request.
Then, this afternoon, as I was about to toss my October 2012 copy of Our Daily Bread, (that I was using as a bookmark), more about God's timing caught my eye. From October 20th by David Roper, "The Bible records God's 'delays,' many of which seem at the time to be inexplicable from our point of view. Yet every delay flows from the depths of His wisdom and love. If nothing else, delay, if we accept it, can produce the quieter virtues--humility, patience, endurance, and persistence--qualities that are often the last to be learned…He is not indifferent to your plight, nor is He unmoved by your pleas. He is waiting while His purposes are achieved. Then, at the right moment, He will intercede. God is never in a hurry, but He is always on time."
Had it worked out with the coffee kiosk, there would have been so many important and humbling experiences that I may have missed in the past twelve years. God is more concerned about me maturing in my knowledge and wisdom of Him, then in the success of my worldly pursuits. Praise God!
Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
This was an eye-opener! Unless we start with love, we can't achieve joy, peace, kindness, etc. The last quieter fruits are impossible without growing the first fruits. Boy! God does have it all thought out!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that reminder that everything is in God's timing. I needed to hear that. He sees the big picture. His wisdom I cannot fathom. Therefore, I should trust him.
