Not Wanting Anyone to Perish
Everyone has seasons of ill health, trials and tribulations. Recently, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and had his first radiation treatment today. My father (83 years old) fell on Monday taking out the trash and skinned up his face and possibly broke his wrist. I have heard of all kinds of trials and troubles endured by family and friends lately. In our gated community a month ago, a person on the run from police drove through our large metal security gates going at speeds of 100 mph. The national news recounts chaos and violence in our country and others on a daily basis.
It makes me think of what my grandson asked lately, "Is God still alive?" It may make you wonder at times, but the Bible is clear on one point, even when we don't want to accept it, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world," (John 16:33) Jesus stated that, "you will have trouble." He didn't pull any punches or beat around the bush here. He told it like it is then and now, but people don't seem to want to hear the hard facts, the truth of the matter, and information in black and white.
If we are destine for trouble, then what? Jesus told us in John 16:33 "in me you may have peace." If we pray, read and study God's Holy Bible, and do what he said for us to do in the Word, we can have peace, even if the world around us is in turmoil. Part of our peace comes from knowing that Jesus laid down his life on the cross for us, each of us, and our sins in totality. If we believe in Jesus by faith, call on him to forgive us of our sins and ask him to come into our lives and be our Lord and Savior, he will do it. Regardless and nevertheless...no matter who we are or what we have done, we WILL be saved out of this world of evil one day to join Christ Jesus in heaven. How do I know? He tells us so in John 14:2-3, "My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
Believe, in faith, that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only way to heaven and you will be saved. There are no fancy rituals or requirements, He did it all for you so that you couldn't say you worked your way into heaven and somehow it was a place for only a rare few. God is inclusive, not exclusive. He tells us in His Word, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance," (2 Peter 3:9). So join those Christians who have already gone before you, are going now, or soon...and most importantly spread the good news so that others may spend eternity in heaven with the Father and Creator of the Universe.
