Snuffling

Snuffling sounds woke me from my nap. Thanksgiving preparations had left me tired and I tried to take a nap while others were out doing Black Friday shopping. As I looked toward the bottom of the door, all that was visible was a dog's black nose. As my cocker spaniel has gotten older, she has become my constant companion. I had to smile, when crouching down to see under the door, where two furry paws and a sniffing black nose filled the space.
This morning, I read about God's desire for us to stay close to Him and build relationship with Him. It seems easy for my dog, she wants nothing more than to be in proximity to me. How much more should I desire to stay near my Lord Jesus Christ?
You might think, "Well, it's easy for a dog to trust and obey its master since the owner feeds the dog, bathes it and keeps it safe." Exactly, just as the Lord does for me and much, much more! But the difference is my dog keeps a singular focus on her loyalties toward me whereas my loyalties toward God tend to waver and wander depending on my feelings, health, emotions, and even levels of fear or fatigue.
I want to be one the Lord hears "snuffling" at His door, wanting in, seeking to be nearer to Him each and every day. I want to learn to fix my mind on things above, regardless...
Colossians 3:1-4
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

  1. So cute! I can picture Abby doing that as well as you seeking to be near the lord.
