Set the World on Fire

Are you making a new year's resolution? Some people say they aren't making them because they never accomplish them; while others say they always set new goals for each new year. Which is best, I wondered as the television announcer proceeded to question random people on the street? Should I not set goals because I'm not likely to complete them or should I dare to set goals in hopes that I will be successful at completing them?
Here's what the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 about running the race called life:
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who completes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
The easy way is not always the best way. Second best is not what God has in store for his children. We accept not losing, but also not winning, when we don't step out and take chances, make goals, and pursue dreams. One day we will all stand before the God and Judge of this universe. We will not be judged for our sins, (since as Christians, Christ already paid that price on the cross for us) but we will be rewarded for our acts, deeds, and words that do not burn up under the scrutiny of the Most High God.
If we never do anything hard, uncomfortable, or in complete faith that only God can do it through us...our deeds are likely chaff...our efforts are in vain, not eternal. Let's take a step of faith this new year and pledge our lives and days to God and ask Him what we can do each day that He would want us to do. I believe if we obey daily the will of God, then 2018 will be a life changing year, not just for us, but for those that come into contact with us.
As they say, Be the Change, but to do so we may need to make some changes and set our hearts on things above, let go of past regrets, present excuses, and pray for future guidance and support from the Holy Spirit to live lives that set the world on fire, rather than burn in the eternal fire of judgment.
Jeremiah 13:24-25
"I will scatter you like chaff driven by the desert wind.
This is your lot, the portion I have decreed for you," declares the LORD,
"because you have forgotten me and trusted in false gods."
