Eyes to See

     First, let's begin with prayer for a 20 year old woman in North Carolina who recently removed her own eyes while in a methamphetamine (also known as meth, chalk, crank, crystal, ice, or speed) induced episode. The pictures showed a girl with beautiful, green eyes, but apparently she had been introduced to the drug and it had ravaged her life in just six months.
     Lord, we pray for Kaylee and others who are being deceived by people who are introducing them to these awful illegal drugs and others who are choosing to use illegal drugs or overuse even legal drugs. The devil would want that all would be drug laden so he could influence their minds and easily convince them that evil is good and good is evil. Lord, I don't know how to help these people, but I know you do. Please lay your hand of healing upon Kaylee and others who are in the clutches of drug and alcohol addiction. Help Kaylee to use her terrible situation for Your good and hers. Amen.
    The Bible speaks about the gouging out of your eye if it is causing you to sin, but this is a metaphor for the idea that we must deal with sin severely or we will fall deeper into sin or cause others to fall into sin if we continue to stray from God's will and ways:
Matthew 18:6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell" (from BibleGateway.com).
     Someone, and Kaylee's mother doesn't know who, introduced Kaylee to meth which according to the report may have been laced with some other drug as well. The scripture above speaks to the sin of those who "cause[s] one of these little ones...to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large stone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." Drug producers and dealers are harming God's "little ones" and I pray that He will deal with them severely so that other young women and men will no longer desecrate and mutilate the temple God which He has been given them to live out their days on earth.
Matthew 13:15 (NIV)
For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts and turn,
and I [God] would heal them.
