A River Runs Through It
I recently returned to my hometown to enjoy a weekend with family. My cousins had organized a family reunion at a local park which had a river running through it. Coming from Arizona, where the temperatures are currently over 100 degrees, I enjoyed standing in the shade of the trees lining the river and listening to the babbling of the water as it tumbled over the boulders close to shore. Nothing could be more inviting then cool water, especially for this desert dweller. I could have stood there much longer, but I had family that I hadn't seen in years with whom to chat and catch up on their lives.
The Bible reminds us that Jesus is the living water and that all who are thirsty can come to him and be renewed. In Revelation 22:1-3, (the last book in the Bible), we hear about another river, "Then the angel showed me [John] the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb [Jesus Christ] down the middle of the great street of the city [New Jerusalem]. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse."
There is a lot of refreshment available in the description of this celestial scene. First, we get to be with and see our creator, God and savior, Jesus Christ. Secondly, a crystal clear river will flow through it from the very throne of God! Thirdly, the tree of life that was the beginning of sin as Eve and Adam disobeyed the one requirement from God and ate its fruit, will bare twelve crops of food each month that we will be able to eat and enjoy. Finally, the curse of their original sin will be lifted (due to Christ's dead and resurrection) and we will live as we were supposed to live all along with God...peacefully.
In this day and age of toil and trouble, seek Jesus Christ and one day you can have eternal life. Ask Jesus to forgive you for your sins (past, present, and future), tell him you believe he is the Son of God and that he died for your sins (if you have doubts, tell him that too and ask him to help you with your unbelief), then read the Bible and pray to know him better and become more like him each and every day. Then, when it's our time to leave this earthly dwelling, you and I will stand on the shore of this heavenly river for the most amazing family reunion of all time!

Mark 9:21-24
Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?"
"From childhood," he answered. "It [an evil spirit] has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."
"'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes."
Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
