Wet Wipes
I bought another package of wet wipes to go in my car recently. This last year, I have wiped down more surfaces, hands, and doorknobs then I have in all my years on this earth! I'm sure you can relate. Due to COVID-19, we must be particularly diligent about our hygiene habits.
Germs, as in viruses and bacteria, are our constant nemesis here on earth. But there is a spiritual battle going on as well that no amount of wet wipes will clean up. We are covered in the sins of the world and the only One who can wash away our sins is the Son, who God sent to save us from our sins, Jesus Christ.
As the hymn recounts, "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus." https://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn/h/1008 (See the link for the song in its entirety.) Only Jesus can "wet wipe" our sins away. If we could do it ourselves, He wouldn't have to have come to earth and died and suffered so horrendously.
Today if you are struggling with stubborn sins that will not wash away, remember that you can call on Him to cleanse you. You can call out to God and let Him know that you can't do it yourself and you need His help. He already knows, but He wants you to acknowledge and repent of your sins first, then submit to His will for your life, before He intervenes. He will not "clean you up," unless you ask Him, because He is a gentle and loving God who wants you to want to be "wet wiped."
Mark 9:28-29 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it [an evil spirit] out?" He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer."
