Make the Days Count
With COVID-19 now mutating into more virulent viruses, the fear of exposure continues and causes us to hunker down and spend much of our time at home. I do love our home and feel blessed to have it and to have a wonderful husband and crazy puppy to keep me company. That being said, the days seem to run into each other like a stream into a river. Before I know it, it's a new day, or a new month, or the next holiday, and I wonder where has the time gone?
It reminds me of 2 Peter 3:8-9, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." Some of my days seem like a thousand years! But that's because in my case, I am focusing on my needs, rather than those of the lost.
See God is patiently waiting for sinners to call on His Son, Jesus Christ, to be their Savior and Lord. Once the lost souls of the earth have done this, their names will be written in the Lamb's book of life, "Nothing impure will ever enter it [the new heaven and new earth], nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life" (Revelation 21:27).
Rather than pining away about the old days, or wasting time on social media or watching television when boredom strikes, I should use my time to pray for the lost who have yet to call on the name of the Lord. My concerns shouldn't be on what is next for me, but what will happen to them--unbelievers--if God does come back today.
Maybe God has us hanging out at home so we can spend more time on our knees, calling out for revival across the land, renewal of hearts and minds, and residents of this earth to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This time at home allows us to spend our days praying for lost souls to be spared from eternal darkness, which would truly be desolation and eternal loneliness due to separation from God. So rather than fighting boredom, we can do as the great boxer, Muhammad Ali said, "Don't count the days, make the days count."
Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
