Trail of Guilt
A friend texted me to say her husband felt blame over a recent car accident he had and couldn't shake it. It began thinking about "blame" and as I researched the word and synonyms for the word "blame," the word "guilt" came up over and over. So I went to the BibleGateway.com website and searched the word "guilt" and scripture after scripture came up.
As I read through various scriptures, the trail of guilt led to one person, the only One who could take away the sin (guilt) of the world, Lord Jesus Christ. The devil wants you and I to remain in the guilt of our past, so we can be of no future use to the Lord. If we wallow in self-pity or even self-righteousness, we can't claim the victory that is ours as Children of the Most High God.
Read through the scriptures below and I think you will come to the same conclusion that I did. We are not alone in our sins (guilt), but together we all caused God to send His Son Jesus as a living sacrifice on the cross for our guilt. But it is over, the work of the cross has been done by the Lord, so we can live in the freedom of the cross, not the condemnation that we deserve (John 19:30).
Leviticus 5:19 "It is a guilt offering; they have been guilty of wrong doing against the LORD."
1 Samuel 3:14 "Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, 'The guilt of Eli's house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.'"
Psalm 69:5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Isaiah 24:20 The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls--never to rise again.
Isaiah 59:3 For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsely, and your tongue mutters wicked things.
Ezekiel 2:23-24 "It will seem like a false omen to those who have sworn allegiance to him [King of Babylon], but he will remind them of their guilt and take them captive. Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because you people have brought to mind your guilt by your open rebellion, revealing your sins in all that you do--because you have done this, you will be take captive.'" (Insertion added by me.)
James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Acts 5:28 "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he [High priest of the Sanhedrin] said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood." (Insertion added by me.)
The trail of guilt over the centuries has caused deep wounds and much blood shed, but that is Satan's work. He is guilty of trying to usurp the power and position of God and since he too is a created being, that is impossible. He tries to punish us, blame us, and make us suffer as he is suffering and that is not what God has in mind for His creations. If we repent, ask God for forgiveness of our sins, He will wipe away our sins. Let your slate of life be wiped clean by the shed blood of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:25). Say "yes" to salvation and "no" to condemnation.
John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
