Consistently Choose the Light

Wow, I can't believe I have been away from this blog for over two months! What have I been doing all this time?! Have any of you wondered this during COVID? If you are like us, we're retired, so there are no children or work to remind us of what day it is and other important responsibilities. We have some days where we don't really get the day started until about 10:00am and then wonder as we wander off to bed at 9:00pm what we accomplished those days.

I am excited to announce we finally found a church to join and have gone to a couple of Bible studies. It makes our move to this "new" town so much better now that we have a church family. (I say, "new" because we moved here October of 2019, but that was just before COVID, giving "BC" a whole new meaning, and we just didn't get to settle in to any normalcy until recently.)

At church this morning, one of the elder's, Gale, spoke on John 9 regarding Jesus healing the blindman. He made the point, something to the effect, that Jesus brings light into the world and it is up to us to "consistently choose" the light, Jesus, over darkness even in these difficult days. What a great reminder that God does not force us to choose Him, but instead gives us the opportunity to choose Him of our own free will. I know for me it is much easier to choose the light, when I am in the Word, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path," (Psalm 119:105 NIV).

To do anything with any kind of consistency, we must first decide that the choice is a priority. Once we have made that decision, we must nurture it daily for it to become a habit. A habit requires routine, which means we daily spend time in the Word, praying, and studying God's love letter to us, His Holy Bible, to be able to "consistently choose" Jesus over a multitude of distractions. He wants us to connect with Him, He wants us to know Him, and He has given us all we need to become intimate friends of our All Mighty God.

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
